My Fellow Nerds

You know who you are. I mean, come on. This blog is Nerd Central.

Don't deny it. Embrace your nerdiness as I have mine.

I've posted an article on one of my other blogs explaining why we nerds love science fiction.

Here's the link: Bill Johnson's Blog

I read your article, and I couldn't answer most of the questions there, suggesting that I'm not a nerd (even though I have glasses and study the poetry of John Keats). I do know the difference between a TIE and an X-Wing, though.

I don't even know all the answers to those questions (specifically, I don't know Klingon or how to mod a Playstation). But don't tell the non-nerds. It's important for us to maintain the facade.

I don't know Klingon. but then again I can't speak any earthly languages fluently either (unless HTML counts, and even then I'm not fluent).

I don't know how to mod my Xbox, but I probably would if I could figure it out.

I can hack into a copyright protected DVD, but that's another topic.

I do re-install my OS at least twice a year to keep my skills up to date.

I'm probably a 'nerd lite' if there is such a thing, but I'm comfortable with that.

I think the fact that I call myself a Padawan and have the bloody braid does prove that I am a Star Wars nerd.
I have the complete "Weird Al" Yankovic album collection. I fix classic NES systems for a living. My living room is a shrine to SW.
My name is Rebecca and I am a nerd. *sniff*

0) [Everyone] "Hi, Rebecca!" Wow, a girl nerd. That's pretty rare.

1) Nerd or geek? Which term do you prefer? At my university, the nerds were cool and the geeks were dorks, but I've heard the reverse elsewhere. It may be a regional thing.

2) Not sure if you're a nerd? Take the test! (Here's another one)

I scored 66.66666(repeating [Leroy Jenkins reference])%

I was under the same impression as Han/Phoenix, but according to Dictionary.com, both nerd and geek have the same definition.

An interesting little tidbit - Dr Seuss may have been the person to coin the term "nerd".

Wikipedia has an interesting article on the dispute between the terms.

It may be that I am wrong, but considering the origin of the word 'geek', I'd still rather be a nerd.

Geek, nerd, dork, not much difference, eh? Here (in Michigan) dorks are stupid idiots, geeks are like nerds but "less", and nerds are like ultra smart. So Han, I guess it is a regional. thing.
