New Blogger Feature to Help Lessen Spam Comments

I know you guys are fed up with spam comments as much as I am. What you may not know is that Blogger now has a feature called "Word Verification".

It works like this - if someone wants to leave a comment on your blog, before the comment is posted, the commenter must fill in a field with a word pictured in the comment box that looks something like this:

How does this help stop spammers? A lot of spammers use automated programs to post comments for them. These programs can't read the picture, so they're prevented from posting comments.

I've just turned this on for the Yoda blog and this blog. In order to turn this feature on for your blog, go to your Dashboard, choose your blog, go to Settings, then Comments, and next to Word Verification choose "Yes".

This won't stop every spammer as some of them do their dirty work manually, but it should lessen the spam significantly.

Mine just got spammed for the first time the other day - I'm kinda flattered (in an weird sorta way)! But I will definitely be using this feature - thanks for the tip Bill/Yoda!
