A New Direction?

I realize that I'm new here, but I've been at the Owen blog since June 10: that's a lifetime in the Blogosphere, when you post everyday! Anyway, it recently occurred to me, especially after yesterday's blog, that my character has truly gone to the dark side, yet this is not my intention. I always tried to keep my blog clean: free of sexual stuff, and the like, but I have recently detected a pattern, almost a cancer, that's acquired a foothold in my ongoing storyline. In lay terms, it's gotten pretty sick, lately. Owen is like a runaway monster that I can't seem to stop, and one that I'm not sure if I even want to stop. But I put up a new post tonight, with a new direction in mind. I would appreciate if you could all stop by, just to tell me what you think. Let me know if the monster should be stopped, or should be left alone. I look foward to your opinions, great Star Wars Bloggers!

Owen was definitely starting to get sleazy. I mean, it's your blog, but I never saw any indication in the movies of him being more than just gruff.

I take it from reading your latest post on the Owen blog that your new direction is making Owen a nice guy?

Here's my two credits worth - your blog is so wickedly funny because Owen's such an unintentional jerk. However, there are different facets to everyone's personality, so it's always good to add some likeability to a character. For example, Homer Simpson - one of the worst husbands and dads in TV history. Yet, he is likeable, which is why people keep watching that show.

If your new direction is just making the blog less sick, then I think that's great as long as Owen remains a jerk.

Haven't read the latest post yet, but I might now that I've read this. I think it would be a welcome turn.

I may say too much here, but while shock factors are good tools (I guess) they have greater impact when used sparingly. Relying continually on them is an easy out and discredits whatever actual talent or originality & creativity a writer might have to show... in my opinion.

Yep, I said too much. Pay me no mind, I'm just a fluke.

Javie - IMO you need both. I agree with Fluke. I admit that your recent posts were getting a little *too* nasty for my taste, so I'd like to see more of a balance in Owen as long as he remains true to character.

I just re-read your recent posts.

Somehow I had missed the post that starts off with the vomit description. Yeah, time to back off a little, man.

But keep the irreverent tone of your blog.

I think you're all right: Owen needs a balance. In my early posts, I achieved this, yet lately there's way too much carnage, blood, senseless slaughter, and bodily excretions. I will probably have to start writing my blog while I'm sober. Thank you all for the keen insight.

Since you are looking for feedback,
I would say that he was definitley getting a little dark. He's not even a sith lord, and they are pretty evil.

I was originally inspired by the Darth Side blog where Vader was clearly an evil character, but in a funny sort of way. It's not easy to walk that line between evil for entertainment, and just plain nasty.

In my blog I am mean to just about everyone, but it's in my character to be two faced and mean. I also like to put some humor in there to show that he's prone to mistakes and blunders, just like everyone else.

Owen has his issues, but I never pictured him as a wife beater and all around nasty character. But it's your blog, so you get to do what you like with it.

On that note, I think your most recent post may have gone a little to far to the 'light' side.

'A moment I will cherish forever'???

What's that all about?? ;-)

Palps- Thanks for the input. The last post was an exaggeration, just to throw everybody off.

But I must clarify something: Owen's a piece of work, but he never beat Beru, in fact he'll never lay a hand on her or the baby, that's where I draw the line. He yells a lot, but that's all. He's more into the emotional abuse.

Dad smacked Beru once or twice, in the early posts, but what can you expect from that SOB?
