Yes, I think Bill has all of their email addresses.

If that's what everyone wants to do, we can.

But this is my take on this - how would removing people make this blog better? Those blogs are still up, and they represent a decent body of work.

Even though those blogs haven't been updated, if someone were to click the links under the list of contributors and go to those blogs, he would still be in for an interesting read.

But, it's up to you guys.

You better check yourself before you wreck yourself.

I don't think we should dump them, we should find out what's going on.

Not that I disagree, but on the other hand, it might discourage other people from picking up that character.

It might. On the other hand, we have two Jar Jars, there are two Luke Skywalkers, two Padmes, and at least three Chewbaccas.

That's true. But, did they know about each other when choosing their characters? I had a friend who wanted to post as Kit Fisto, but we already have a Kit Fisto.

Meanwhile, The Bold and The Tentacled has but three posts on it, and it's coming up on the three month anniversary since the last update. (The already 3+ month old hbrrrrrrrrrrrrhhrrbawwwrr has only 4 posts, total)

Likewise, do we want to encourage people to post as whichever character they want, even if someone is already using that character? And will you still feel the same when another Yoda joins us?

Perhaps we could take non-posting members off of the contributors list and put an "Archived" group of links on the sidebar. By 'non-posting' I mean those with blogs that haven't been updated in some time; say, three months or so.

On a side note, I know of four Chewbacca blogs. None of them are updated. (T_T)

I'm quite sure that Jar Jar/Chris knew about the other Jar Jar when he created his blog, but the other Jar Jar hadn't posted in a while

Actually, I didn't. Nick/Dooku did a search for Jar Jar blogs beforehand to make sure I wasn't stepping on anyone's toes, but he didn't find anything until the day after I started.

Frankly, I would be a little annoyed if someone else started doing a Yoda blog, but I have always felt that it was inevitable as it has happened to the Incredible Hulk's blog. Besides, people are free to do what they want. It's not like the Yoda character really belongs to me anyway.

However, that wasn't really my point. I was addressing Leia's concern about other people being discouraged from picking up a character that hasn't been updated in a while.

Truthfully, I'm not worried that someone won't pick up these "abandoned" characters because I don't care. I don't understand the big concern. If we need these characters for some reason, we can just write them into our own blogs. To me, it's just not a good enough reason to kick someone out of the group.

I don't want to exclude anyone unnecessarily. I think the only reason we exclude anyone should be if that person does anything egregious or abusive against others in the group (as has happened recently).

Further, some of the authors of these "abandoned" blogs are active in our little universe in the form of commenting.

My personal experience: I found out about the other Padme blog shortly after I started mine, but it did not affect my decision. I had a different vision for the character and I think there is room for everyone. However, I did get frustrated clicking on the links (going to profiles, then on to blogs) only to find that they were not updated. Not sure I have a solution, but maybe we should discuss this in a committee. ;-)

Contact the owners of the inactive blogs and ask them if they still want to be part of this. Give them a week to respond. If they don't respond, remove them as contributors and set up a "Retired" section with their links.

How can they be mad if they're not even here?

I was originally going to do a Kit Fisto blog too before I saw that someone else had grabbed that character. There may be lurkers who want to take over a character but they may be reluctant to step on other people's toes.

Michelle/Typho's idea about contacting the various authors to ask them if they want to remain is a good solution.

That way, their removal will be voluntary.

If it's alright with everyone I'll be sending out emails within the next few days.

I was going to start a Typho blog as my second blog but then you started yours, you have done alot better than I could of.

There is actually another Yoda blog (http://blogs.starwars.com/Yoda) but its on a different site

It's not another character blog, though.

I did actually come across another Yoda character blog shortly after I started mine. The other one predates mine and is not on blogger. I forget where I found it now, and I can't find it on Google anymore.

As I said, though, I wasn't aware of it until after I had created mine.

Sounds like a good way to solve the thing.

Also, there are probrably hundreds of Star Wars role-players out there for each character. It's fine as long as two or more characters don't coincide. Like What Mace said.

You know what? I like all the names in the contributors because it reminds me how sucessful we have been! I love showing off to my friends, look at how many people contribute on this blog! And they go "whoah" So we should keep the people just for the hell of it. Because what if one of them gets grounded for 6 months, then they go back to their computer and to their favorite Star Wars community and see that they are not on. Thay will be like "that sucks" we don't want people to think like that! No more of this "that sucks" we've got to keep them! We should do a poll vote thingy. Someone make a poll vote thingy please because I don't feel like looking around for one.

Wow, 23 comments. This has turned into a much bigger thing than I intended.

Originally, I just wanted to take off old contributors, because I like to keep things tidy. ^_^ However...

If we need these characters for some reason, we can just write them into our own blogs. To me, it's just not a good enough reason to kick someone out of the group.

That's the perfect argument against my objection that keeping the contributors prevents other people from using that character. And Bill is absolutely correct. I don't need a Chewbacca to bounce ideas off of, I can just write my own.

Therefore, I withdraw my original suggestion. There's no reason my OCD has to hamper other people's blogs. ^_^

If we want to reorganize the sidebar (maybe, change to direct links instead of profile links, or put different blogs in different categories, or whatever) I'm up for that. It's more work than the current automated system, but it may be more functional. It's up to you guys.

I think re-organizing the sidebar is a good idea.

Maybe like Phoenix said earlier, abandoned blogs can be put into an archived list. Also, directly linking to our blogs instead of our profiles would be a better experience for users.

Great, I wanna be Fluke Starbucker!

Me too! Wait, didn't I already do that? Yeah I did, sea? And I was in way over my head, floundering for the right words. Poor Fluke probably wants my head on a pike, wondering if I was smoking reefer or something. "Who's this buoy?" he probably asked himself, "his tail is scaling new depths of badness." I'm not fishing for compliments.

But, it shore was fun! ^_^ I'm easily amused though; I need to get trout more often.

Squid pro quo, I think QGJ doing Han was great! I practically keeled myself laughing. I give it my seal of approval.

For some reason...just for the halibut, now I'm wondering if Admiral Ackbar is available...no, I already have a character. I mean, holy mackerel! Isn't a sole character enough? I don't need to be shellfish about it. Fin other words, if I'm going to fine tuna blog, it should be Solo's. Thinking about other characters...I should get my head exsalmoned! I'd have to be a sic manta want another blog. Actually...I have been feeling a bit eel lately. My herring is shot, my mussels are sore...forget the doctor, I may need a sturgeon.

Man...I can't get these out of my head. This cod-forsaken humor! It's not even finny. These jokes are older than Noah's shark. I'm being punished for something. The whole thing sounds a little fishy to me.

Whoa. Sorry, Jon. You fed me a line, and I swallowed it, hook, line, and sinker.

OK, I'm finished.

Does that get any longer? I only know the first five words. What does the rest of it stand for?

Rolls on the floor laughing, mom and Olaf are standing where Oprah owns my neck, was supwith at, the hole on the sandy beach, is water fine?

All right, I give up. What's it stand for?

Ach! I spelt 'sick' wrong! Their may half bean otter Typhos as swell. It was late, and I had a haddock. I can't believe haddock didn't make my list of gillnesses. I'm such a pool.

Ugh, the puns. It's like this stream I keep having, where I'm playing gulf with Greg Norman. He's surrounded by his groupers, and we're chatting, but he's trying to take his shot. He turns to us and says "If you'd dolphinish talking, I could putt." I don't know why he vents his anchor at me, I know he's going to kick my bass no matter how much I chat.

OK, this time I really think I got it all out of my system. Don't encourage me!

Wait, what did you say about public transportation? And HOW DID YOU KNOW ABOUT THE POTATOES?!

Tahl, what I've been doing is writing a bit every day. More often than not, it stays in draft mode, and is eventually deleted (unless I've already written something after it that refers to it, or I need something new on a certain day ^_^), but it keeps me in practice. Once the juices start flowing again, it's hard to stop them.

Try this approach -

Don't try to think up an entire story before you begin writing.

Write just one sentence in character - anything your character might say. Then build on that. I doesn't have to go anywhere right away. Just get into the mind of your character and let her talk.

You might write ten paragraphs before you get to the actual beginning of your post. Once you get to that point, the story should start forming in your mind.

At least, that has been my approach lately.

If you try it, let me know if it works for you.
