Image Gallery Update: Drive traffic to your blog with images

I’ve moved the image gallery started by General Grievous to a new domain. It’s still under construction, but you can preview it here:

I’ve added images from the following blogs in order to get started and test the software:

  • Dooku

  • Grievous

  • Padmé

  • Palpatine

  • Qui-Gon

  • Typho

  • Yoda

Some concerns:

  • If the owners of the blogs above would like me to remove their images, no problem. Just contact me.

  • If you are not the creator of any of the images I’ve posted, let me know so I can remove them. We don’t want to take credit for other people’s work here.

  • If you have other images that I’ve missed that you’d like posted, please contact me.

Can the following people contact me and let me know if you have images of Star Wars characters (that you’ve created) that you would like me to add to the new site?

  • Aayla Secura

  • Anakin Skywalker

  • Cardboard Knight

  • Fluke Starbucker

  • Jar Jar Binks (both of you)

  • Jawa Juice

  • Jedi Siri

  • Jon, Intergalactic Gladiator

  • Leia

  • Mace Windu

  • Mon Mothma

  • Noel of Neptonian

  • Obi-Wan (both of you)

  • Oola

  • Padmé (the first one)

  • Sabé

  • Shaak Ti

  • Tahl

  • Yaddle

If you are trying to decide whether or not you’d like to add your images to this project, there’s a good chance that this can help drive traffic to your blog. By using StatCounter, I’ve found that traffic is being driven to blogs in the group by people searching MSN, Yahoo and Google for various Star Wars images.

So it can’t hurt to consolidate the images in one place and place links to our blogs.

I'm back. I was overloaded with different forms of work over the past month or so, but I've decided to get the Jar Jar blog up and running again.

I apologize most sincerely for being inconvienient in such a manner. I have made a new post in my blog and plan to update it nearly daily.

-Jar Jar.

Round Four

Jawajuice's "The Penthouse that Brownies Built" wins the third Post of the Week competition.
Eligible for the next round are posts written between October 24 and October 31 (Monday instead of Sunday since the Halloween posts could and Typho made some suggestions about the voting system in the chat box over there -->
which I missed completely and have only just seen (sorry). Anyway, here's how it's supposed to work -

In the first half of the week, I take nominations in. For the second half, I take votes in. What defines "the first half of the week" may vary with dolphin migration patterns, but usually ends on Wednesday or Thursday. Also, if I'm not getting many nominations, I'll keep it open longer. If I still don't have many by Thursday, I'll throw one in myself.

Try not to vote before Thursday unless you're certain about the post you want to vote for, because someone else might nominate another one that you like better. Of course, that won't always be possible. So, yes, you can change your vote. Just don't e-mail me again and again if you're vascillating.

I would like to keep nominations and voting open for longer, but if the process took more than a week, the next round would have started before the previous one had finished, and things would get really confusing.

If anyone has any other questions, please ask. I need all the help I can in get making this work well.

I received an invitation from Master Yoda to introduce myself and answer a few questions.

This should be fun, right?

In real life?
Well (RL) name is Kimberly, I’m 26 from Iowa, USA.

I work for a local paper as freelance writer, and I also do stand-up at a local bar.

Why're you doing this?
I’m doing this for fun.

What made you decide to start a blog like this?
I wanted to interact with other Star Wars fans and/or fanfic writers.

Why did you choose your particular character?
(Characters) I’m the writer of two blogs Dorme Devoted Aide and Shira Brie AKA Lumiya.

Plus I’m thinking of doing a third Mara Jade Skywalker and/or Luminara Unduli. I'll have more information at a later date on this.

Why have I picked such interesting characters you might ask?
I like the challenge of having to write more than a few blogs a week for one character.

If you post often, where do you get ideas?
Thinking, and planning on who, where, how and why.

Tips and tricks I know from blogging?
I’m new, so anything anyone wishes to share or help me with will be greatly appreciated.

I’m still trying to figure out how everyone else does this for his or her blogs.

Are there other blogs that you like to see written?
Yes, here a list of one’s I’m looking forward to reading or if someone has run into one of these blogs, please let me know.

Aurra Sing, Darth Vader, Agen Kolar, Quinlan Vos, Asajj Ventress, Jango Fett, Boba Fett, Zam Wesell, Nute Gunray, Lando Calrissian, Wedge Antilles, R2-D2, Jabba the Hutt, Greedo, and C-3P0.

Side note-
One song I know all the words to Wake me Up When the Clone Wars End.

I just wanted to remind everyone (who are in the US) to change their clocks back tomorrow...Ahhh Saturday night. And I also wanted to wish everyone a HAPPY HALLOWEEN.

Here is Todd (my husband) dressed as Darth Vader. Last year he went as Obi Wan. I'll be nice and not post that picture. However I will be posting more pictures on my REAL LIFE BLOG

And once again you can vote for the name of my ship, just visit my BLOG . The last time I looked it was a three way tie.

Ohhh one more quick thing, on Tuesday November 1st, Star Wars three comes out...but you probably already knew that.

Well that's all I have to say for now.

SW Picture Contest: Task One Underway

Intergalactic Gladiator's 100th Post

Will be on Monday!

I wanted to:

a) Thank everyone who has visited me, especially those who have made an effort to post inane comment after inane comment. And by "inane" I mean "funny."

b) make sure everyone reads today's post, so they can appreciate the cliffhanger.

c) Assert my love for cheese and beer.

c++) Once again, thanking people for allowing this non-Star Wars character to screw around in your "universe." I think if more people were so welcoming, we wouldn't have so many unhappy people in this world. Sniff.

d) Tell everyone to keep their eyes on the prize, to grab that brass ring, to keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the wheel, to continue having fun with your own blogs and keep us informed of your own hallmark events.

Thank you,

Star Wars Picture Album

Well, I've been making myself a lot of things to do lately: SW Picture Contest, 2 blogs... and now I'm making a Star Wars Picture Album: it is going to contain all edited pictures from all SWU blogs and any other SW blog I recieve.

But as this is a big project, I need help: I need you to send me the links of pictures from your blogs an a few words about it (like a title).

Currently only General Grievous' pictures are there. The other links don't work - but will once i get the pictures and make the pages for them.

We Have a Winner

The votes have been counted for the second Post of the Week competition, and the winner is...
Palpatine's "What Not to Wear (Finale)"!
Congratulations, Palps, I'll send you a nice banner you can stick on your blog if you like.

And to everyone else, SWU members can now make nominations for the next round. Posts written between October 17 and October 23 and not written by Qui-Gon or Palpatine are eligible.

Grievous - Man in the mirror

Saturday, October 22, 2005

Photoshop/Image Contest!

I've decided to set up an image making contest:

It will run every 1-4 weeks (still need to decide on time length)
Obejective is to create an image based on a statement (ie. your ideal accomodation) that is in character. (any suggestions would be appreciated)
Images will be sent into me and I will post them on a seperate blog where everyone can view them and after a certain time I will place a poll on the blog where everyone can vote (I don't think I should judge unless there are a huge number of entries which need reducing, which i doubt).
Images can be anything from images from the net pieced together, to 3d models inserted into custom enviroments, to painted images.

Name/url of the blog and competion details to follow. If you want to participate please say, so I can get an idea of numbers. This is also on the forum.

Blog is Up: Star Wars Picture Contest - check it for detailed information

I want everyone who reads my blog and is on my list, not to freak out. Nothing bad will happen to anyone's character, I promise. I won't go around and mate with everyone so don't worry.

This is just an attempt to waste some time before the Grand Opening of my new resort ship.

Which reminds me if you haven't voted yet please do so. I think I have it set so everyone can vote again in seven days from the time I set up the voting poll. So vote again ...when it's time.

Grievous' party

ok Grievous has just posted with his party post (his celebration of escaping prison).
If you want to - ideally one of the people that were there (or you could say that you snuck in) you can post what happened at the party. You don't need to, just thought i would say this.

John Roberts?

Is someone here the author of the John Roberts blog?

Just curious.

Voting Booths Open

Just a reminder, SWU members can vote for Post of the Week from now till Sunday. Just e-mail me or PM me on the SWU forum. The list of nominees is on the forum as well.

Writer's Block? Try This.

I don't recommend trying to post to your character blog everday, unless you're some kind of masochist. In that case, knock yourself out. And really, who am I to judge if you are?

As I've stated before, I do post daily on the Yoda blog for my own reasons (unrelated to masochism). For a while, it was becoming harder and harder to think up things to post about. For all my preaching early on about how you should "know your character so well that you can close your eyes and imagine... (blah, blah, blah)", I was still having trouble. It got to where I would sit up late at night for a couple of hours staring at a blank screen, dozing in and out of sleep until I found myself typing with my nose.

Then, I started using the following technique, and it has worked very well for me. Now, from the time when I sit down to start on my blog until I finish sometimes takes me only half an hour or less. The reason I bring it up is that I'm interested if this would work for anyone else. So, for anyone who's interested, please feel free to give this a try. If you do, let me know if it works for you:

-Instead of trying to think up an entire story line or outline of your post before you start to write, just start typing. Type anything. Just make it so that it's in your character's "voice".
-At this point, don't be concerned about writing anything "usable". I suppose it's possible that you could write as many as ten paragraphs before you come to what the actual beginning of your post will be.
-Keep writing until you achieve a stream of consciousness or something comes out that triggers a story in your head.
-Write that story until completion without stopping to edit or doing anything else that would interrupt your stream of consciousness.
-Once finished, edit what you've written and take out the unusable stuff you wrote before you got to your actual post.

If any of you try this, please let me know if it worked for you. Maybe I'm a little weird and it works only for me. That's OK. Either way, I'd like to know.

I'd also be interested to hear how the rest of you who post every day or almost every day think up things to write about. How do you work through Writer's Block (if you get it)? Let us know in the comments.

And by the way, make sure to help Chelley/Noel (Noelly? Choel?) figure out a name for her new ship (see post below).

Voting for the name of my new ship.

I just want everyone to know that I have a voting poll open on my blog.
I need a name for my resort ship and I figured this will be the easiest way to do it.
The poll is on the blog itself not on a post...It can be found right under the picture of my character.
So vote if you want, and I will announce the name at the Grand a couple weeks.

You can also click on HERE if you want's easier.

And Thanks for voting...if you do.

c box?

Im putting a chat box on the site! I think it will be cool! Ill find a good place for it.

And the winner is...

The votes have been counted for the first Star Wars Unplugged Post of the Week contest. It was a close thing, but the winner is... Where did I leave the envelope? Ah, here it is - Qui-Gon Jinn for the Suvivor: Tatooine post, Spiritual Hangups! Congratulations, Quibecca.

Anyway, the cycle now begins anew. SWU members can send in nominations for excellent posts from now until sometime the middle of this week. Posts written by Star Wars bloggers or SWU members (except Qui-Gon) between the 10th and 16th of October are eligible. Good luck, everyone.

Weee!!!! I remember the Day I started this. Anyway, Happy 200th post day! Lets make our goal 500! Can we do it? Yes we can! I can't even count howmany people we have. I just figured out how the orders of the names on the side go. It is the number of posts you post daily! That is why yoda is at the top. He posts every day! OK bye!

We now return to Survivor...

The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated. Although there were times I thought it might be preferable to what I got. It seems I was laid up with pneumonia for two some-odd weeks. Mis-diagnosed as an intestinal disease. (yeah, gotta love cheep HMo’s.) By the time they realized what was really going on I was admitted to the hospital for four days. But bed rest and gallons of the right antibiotics later, I’m finally back home and recuperating.

I’m feeling a lot better folks. Still tired and coughing and off work for another week. Which is good, I got a lot of blogs to catch up on.

Thanks for all the well wishes. I can feel the love coursing through the ether of cyberspace.

So Monday I’ll start up again with the reading of the votes (sigh, I fear another tie) and move on from there. I love the idea of the interview/confessional. This was something I’d had hoped more people would do from time to time throughout the game. Nicely done. As with the challenge of fears too.

Anyway, I’m back. I’m feeling better. And I hope I never have to go through that again.

Shameless Self-Promotion

In holding to my rigorous schedule of updating my personal blog (Bill Johnson's Blog) at least once every two or three months, I've posted a new entry there.

It's all about searching for the holiest of Holy Grails - a good haircut. Come share the magic, won't you?

In Yoda news, there's a new contest revolving around the 100,000th visitor. The winner will get the same crappy prizes as usual. I had wanted to have an online T-Shirt store open by now and have a T-shirt as a prize, but I haven't quite got that worked out yet. You would think with the millions and millions of dollars I've made off of Adsense, I could afford to give away a car or something. But you know, there was that whole Oprah controversy and I didn't need that kind of bad press. So I'm just giving away a Gmail invite and an "autographed" picture of Yoda.

Mixed feelings

I've been planning this a long time. I actually put it off a week or so, but I can no longer.

Jo Jo is no longer with us.

I don't know whether to cry with joy or laugh with sadness.

For further info, click the link.

This is also kind of goofy for me because for tomorow, I have a post about my dog that we just put down. Timing just isn't my thing, maybe.

If You Haven't Been Tagged, But Want to Be...

... Don't feel left out! If you haven't been graced with the meme that has been floating around among us, but want to be, shoot me an email or say so in a comment on the Yoda blog and I will tag you, as well as list you among the tagged in my last post.

I would've tagged other SWU members, but it looked to me like everyone who actively maintains their blog has been tagged. However, I realize I may have missed someone, which is why I've posted this notice here.

Survivor: The Final Four

File this under Shameless Plug Dept.

This fall on CBS (Coruscant Broadcasting System)…

After two and a half months and sixteen contestants it comes down to these final four…

Who will walk home with a million credits?!?!

Will it be…

Han Solo? The scoundrel with the will (not to mention stomach) of iron?

Qui-Gon Jinn? The force ghost with the most?!?

Master Yoda? That funky green riddle monkey?

Or Fluke Starbucker? The FotNJO wannabe millionaire wannabe?

Find out in the next couple of weeks as we further narrow it down to the final two and then…the sole survivor!!!

Now that the plug is done with, I got a question. What to do with determining who wins with the final two contestants. When I first started this, I thought the last nine people would compose of a jury and they would vote for the winner, but some of those people are not even blogging anymore.

I thought maybe it would be better if we opened up the voting to everyone who reads and has performed in the game. One huge vote to determine the winner. A kind of final audience (and contestant) participation. I’m leaning towards that direction but I just wanted to know what you guys think?

A New Competition

This is to announce a new competition - the Star Wars: Unplugged Post of the Week and Blog of the Month awards - an opportunity for our members to recognize the skillful bloggery of others.
The rules:

Post of the Week
Each week, on Monday, anyone may e-mail me one nomination for the Post of the Week Award. The first five nominations I recieve will be entered in the competition

Criteria for nomination
  • No one may nominate their own posts - this is the cardinal rule, since this competition is about recognizing the good work of others, not yourself.
  • No author can be nominated more than twice in one week
  • Similarly, no one may nominate more than one post in the same week.
  • Posts written by an author who has already won a Post of the Week award in the same month cannot be nominated (for reasons relating to the Blog of the Month rules).
  • A post must have been written in the previous week to be eligible.
  • Posts written by Star Wars Unplugged members OR by Star Wars bloggers in general are eligible. It doesn't have to be both.

Once I have five nominations, I'll post them on the forum. After the nominations have been posted, people can e-mail me ( to vote. No one can vote more than once - if I catch anyone trying to trick me, I won't let them vote at all; so don't try unless you're sure you can succeed (I shouldn't have said that). Also, only SWU members can vote, so don't e-mail me using an out-of-character address or I won't know who you are.
On Sunday, I'll count all the votes I've recieved and declare a winner. Then, everything starts anew on Monday.

Blog of the Month
This competition is held in the second week of each month. The competitors are the winners of the previous four Post of the Week awards. On Monday, I'll post to remind everyone who those are. Then, voting begins and I'll count everything up on Sunday. Since there were no Post of the Week awards in September, the first Blog of the Month award will be the October award - voting for which will begin on 7 November (plenty of time).

Finally; your votes and nominations are your own business - I won't tell a soul about who voted for who. Confidentiality is a part of my job in real life, and I take it seriously.

Nominations for the first competition begin on 10 October - any post written between 3 and 9 October will be eligible. Any questions?
