Help Wanted: Blog Administrator

Here we grow again!

Star Wars Unplugged, a misFortune 500 blog, is looking to expand its Admin department by opening two more positions. The desired candidate would have good people skills (pet tricks are a plus), be able to type at least three words a minute, and have a Degree of Uncertainty from the School of Hard Knocks. Must be self-motivated and able to lift 40 lbs.

Seriously, we are down to one active Admin - Yours Truly. Shaak Ti/Ari has moved on to other things and Han/Phoenix has been busy with work. We agreed early on that we should have three admins, so I'm asking for two volunteers to step up. If more than two people volunteer, we may put it up to a vote.

Anyone who is an Admin for this blog must be mature, responsible, and somewhat able to remain active in this community for the long-term. There is no need for a large amount of technical expertise (though that is a plus, of course), as the general consensus among us has been to keep this blog pretty basic in design. So as long as you know how to set the links in your own blog, invite members, adjust the Blogger settings, and so forth, you should have enough technical knowledge. The important part, as stated before, is your maturity, responsibility, and commitment.

Admins should also remember that major decisions about this blog are made democratically by the entire group, not the admins themselves.

Anyone who is interested can post a comment or email me.

Well, that leaves me out.

Is this just a matter of adding new members, etc? I mean, how much time are we talking here? I can volunteer if we're not talking a big time commitment.

Pretty much, we're to the point where all the admin does is add new members.

I will be willing to assist in this matter, May need some help in tech areas to start, but am a quick learner.

As long as the admin, dont have to listen to long boring speaches from yoda on cleaning coffee pot or other Jedi ballihoo.

:)

If there are enough other volunteers, I'll withdraw my name. I'm working on getting us some publicity. I've been visiting lots of star wars fan sites and trying to get them to link to us and/or feature us. There are quite a few "star wars news" blogs out there that will hopefully plug us a bit!

I like the idea of Padme and Typho. they both are blog savvy, and know what they're doing.

Please don't take offense Jaba, I'm in the same place you are, we'd require a lot of training, and that'd be hard on Yoda, I think

And Wedge, that's ok, you've got other good attributes :)

I'm telling ya, there is really nothing to it, technically. The most technical thing you would do is invite someone else to the blog.

We decided long ago to keep the blog pretty basic, so there's no need to mess with the template. We also decided not to add links on the side (though I think everyone who has volunteered knows how to do that). We also decided not to promote this blog, so nothing needs to be done there. The chat box needs no maintenance that I am aware of.

The question really is, who wants to do it, as opposed to who is just volunteering to be helpful? It looks like we have enough willing participants, so there's no need for anyone to do it if it will be inconvenient for them.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but here are my impressions:
-I think Michelle/Typho would like to do it, as she has volunteered before if I'm not mistaken. So she should be an Admin.
-Shannon/Padme has indicated she's willing, but it would be inconvenient. There's no need to make her feel obligated.

As far as Jim/Jabafatboy and Don/Wedge are concerned, how much do you want to do it? Will it be a pinch on your time?

Johnathan/Grievous - another good choice. Like Michelle, he's one of our more experienced bloggers and he's got lots of technical expertise (just in case we ever need it, I guess).

So... I'm thinking Michelle/Typho and Johnathan/Grievous. Thoughts? Opinions? Objections?

Should we put it to a vote? I'm not in charge, here. So I don't want to act like this is just my blog. It belongs to all of you.

Don't you mean all of us. (Because it be a very sad day of you won't one of us, Master Yoda!)

If I'm not mistaken, each one of us watches over this blog as if it were our own personal blog. I know what your thinking (that is is a group blog) and your right, but we don't need to post in this one every week. But when we do it's because either one of us has something we wish to share with everyone or it's a question directed to the group as a whole.

And right now I find it hard to believe that a group that is this big is limiting itself to only having 3 administrators to look over and help each and everyone one of us with problems and/or concerns. (And that in itself is very sad and upsetting fact.)

"...we agreed not to promote this blog..."
I guess this was before my time. Or I forgot, which is entirely possible. It would be nice if we had a place that others could link to that would have a list of all our blogs. A jumping off point, if you will, instead of just linking to the profiles.

At the time, I think the main concern was accountability and the fact that too many cooks spoil the broth. We're all here to help one another, whether we're an admin or not. All admins do maintain the blog.

It would be nice if we had a place that others could link to that would have a list of all our blogs.
That would be nice. The problem was that not everyone wanted to promote their own blogs at the time. In addition, this blog has always been pretty informal and haphazard in content. However, our group has changed since we began, so everyone's goals may have changed.

As far as putting links instead of profiles on the side, I've been in favor of that since the beginning. I've never had the time to do that, however. Maybe one of our new admins will be able to do it.

I am the new guy, so I am not comfortable doing any admin duties, but thank you for considering me.

As for content, if we link this site from our blogs, and people may use it as a site to find everyone else. However, must of you have links on your blogs already, so the need for this 'common' site goes down.

Personally, I like the idea of 'hiding behind the curtain' for some of the things that we do.

I like the idea of three of four admin people, and I completely agree with Yoda that too many people can cause more problems than they solve.

I still consider myself fairly new, but I've never had a problem getting help from people on the SW:Unplugged world, regardless of their being an admi person or not.

I like the idea of Typho and Grievous, and maybe in the future add a forth person if they have the time, experience, and interest to do it.

So that's my two cents worth :)
